This rare beauty attracts the Monarch Butterfly. This is the host plant for the monarch caterpillars.

Giant calotrope, also known as Calotropis gigantea or crown flower, is a large shrub or small tree native to India and Southeast Asia, but widely cultivated in tropical regions.  It’s known for its large, hairy leaves, showy five-pointed flowers (often purple or white), and its ability to tolerate hot sun, sandy soil, and drought. It’s also used in making Hawaiian leis.

Giant milkweed requires full sun, thrives in sandy, well-draining soil, and is drought-tolerant once established. It is a tropical plant that prefers hot weather and needs protection from freezing temperatures, growing best in USDA hardiness zones 10-11. Plant it after the last frost in a sunny, well-draining spot.
